Sterling silver and gold can tarnish when exposed to the air, so protect your jewellery when not being worn. Wrap or store separately to avoid scratches and keep it in an airtight container.

Make-up and skin creams can form a layer on metals and stones, making them dull. Gentle cleaning in warm soapy water with a soft toothbrush and wiping with a jewellery polishing cloth is a simple way to bring gold and silver back to life. Be careful when polishing pieces that have oxidised elements, as this can remove the layer of oxidisation.

Avoid bending metals when handling, especially earring wires, as this can increase the chances of breakage.
